Heart Starting Defibrillator / AED Located in Smalley
Smalley Richardson Endowed Primary School have successfully secured funding from the Lodge House Community Fund to install a defibrillator / AED for community access on an external school wall.
To access the Defibrillator in an emergency: Dial 999, give details of your casualty, give your location and you will be given an access code for the yellow cabinet keypad lock. The 999 call team will guide you through your conversation. The AED gives vocal prompts for use and written instruction, with pictures are also in the yellow DefibSafe cabinet. For every minute that passes without early CPR and defibrillation, there is a 10% drop in the chances of survival. Current UK NHS Ambulances are targeted to reach people suffering a cardiac arrest within 8 minutes, nevertheless they maybe delays. A person’s heart can only be restarted by defibrillation. The sooner CPR and an AED is used, the more effective trained medical staff can be when they arrive.
Although the iPAD Defibrillator can be used by anyone and official training is not required, we have arranged 2 free community training sessions on Monday 23rd March 2015 at Smalley Richardson School. These will be relaxed, informal practical sessions so you can familiarise yourself in a non-emergency situation. To register your interest, please email: email@example.com by 21st March stating your preferred session time: Session 1 (3:30-4:30pm) or Session 2 (7-8pm).
However, in the meantime or if you are unable to make a familiarisation session, you can view the short clip below on how to use the iPAD AED (starting at 1:40 secs).

Mr Crawford, Headteacher at Smalley Richardson School said “we are delighted we have been successful with our funding application and proud our recent initiative affirms our school vision to be “an outstanding school at the heart of the community”.
Please spread the word and let other residents, visitors and community members know where their nearest AED is located.
